Welcome!
As of June 1, 2010, PHS has helped 17 pets find new homes this year. Thank you Parkland for your continued support.
In the year 2000, a local woman placed an advertisement in the Dauphin Herald asking all those interested in creating a Humane Society to attend a meeting. The turnout was fantastic and included the local animal control officer, a lawyer, and representatives from the veterinarian clinics in Dauphin. A Board of Directors was formed that night and the Parkland Humane Society was founded. With the help of a local lawyer, the Parkland Humane Society was incorporated in late 2000. The Parkland Humane Society (PHS) is a non-profit, legally registered charity dedicated to the rescue of homeless companion animals, the education of the public and spay/neuter assistance in the Parkland region . We are operated 100% by volunteers and rely 100% on public donations for funding. Because the PHS does not currently have a facility or shelter, it operates through a network of foster homes and volunteers until a forever home can be found for each rescued pet.
The phrase, "Only through education can prevention take place," hase been the foundation of the PHS since its conception. This phrase captures the visions held by the first Board of Directors by highlighting the importance of educating the public about the responsibilities of pet ownership including spay/neutering their pets, animals abuse and recognition of neglectful pet owners. This philosophy continues to influence the acting Board of Directors today, which still consists of representatives from throughout Parkland interested in making a difference in our community.
